A project made out of passion

How The Retro Club began

A place to share a passion for retro and raise it to what it deserves to be: culture.

My name is Saul, and all my life I’ve been passionate about creativity and technology. I’ve spent more than 30 years working in branding and communication, and I’m the founder of The Branding Studio. But long before any of that, I was a player.

Video games came into my life in 1989, with an Atari 2600. Soon after, I won a NES with Super Mario Bros in a drawing competition. There was another drawing that didn’t win any prize but that I remember just as fondly: the one published in number 13 of Hobby Consolas, the Spanish video game magazine.

From the NES I moved on to the Game Boy and the Super Nintendo, and I was one of the lucky few to own a Wild Card, the device that made “backups” of cartridges on floppy disk. Then came the PC, the PS2, the Wii, the PS4 and the PS5.

Today I have a huge collection of retro consoles (I’m still hunting for a Neo Geo Pocket) and I love everything to do with vintage technology. I’m a member of Retromaniacs, I never miss a Retro Barcelona and I still play whenever my free time allows.

Why a club

Over the years, following YouTubers and going to lots of fairs, I’ve missed a digital community for retro: a hub, a Time Out for retro culture, where I could share this passion with other fans, and that treats retro as what it is: culture. That’s how The Retro Club was born.

It’s a project made out of passion, and it has only just begun. I hope you enjoy it, and that together we keep the retro community growing.

How it’s made

The Retro Club’s opinions and curation are 100% human. Formatting, proofreading and production are partly done with artificial intelligence tools.
